Training
With a state-of-the-art in-house training facility Southern Towing Company provides training for its engineers in EMD diesel mechanics as well as electronics and electricity. Engineers also complete required Coast Guard Person-in-Charge certification and pollution prevention training.
Wheelhouse personnel receive refresher training in professional subjects such as Rules of the Road and supervisory drug and alcohol awareness. They are trained in the latest advances in the industry as well as marine firefighting.
With an on-sight mock-up of an ammonia barge, ammonia tankermen receive excellent one-of-a kind training in the safe transportation and handling of liquified ammonia. They also receive OSHA First Responder Level Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response certification.
Annual OSHA HAZWOPER eight hour refresher training is conducted on site by Southwest Tennessee Community College for Southern Towing Company's hazardous response team.
Required Coast Guard vessel security training is conducted on site for all vessel personnel.
